Brand strategy is one of the most fraught areas of marketing, though also one of the most important. As a Startup it's often the element that gets left behind and not really identified. But how can you tell an investor what business you are in, if you don't really know yourself? It's a vital step in creating the company identity.
The key point is you can’t have a strategy without a…

So we've been spammed. As fascinating and entertaining as these messages have been, I have put a stop to them and kicked out the author. Let's hope it doesn't happen again.

Finally, we are returning with yet another crazy Silicon Stilettos meet-up. Massive thanks to our lovely Wendy Tan White of Moonfruit who will be sponsoring this get-together.
If you don't know what Moonfruit is, I am going to assume that you've spent the last few months on a desert island with no Twitter-enabled device in sight.
Moonfruit is a DIY web site builder for SMEs and consumers to build beautiful web sites, simply. It's just been celebrating its 10th birthday one of most innovative a…

I have failed completely. It's July and I still haven't found a sponsor for our next Silicon Stilettos meet-up. I suck at it. I'd like to believe that we'd meet even if there were no free drinks. How about that? If you're game, I will find a quiet pub.

I have been approached by Christophe Asselin the conference director of Ad:Tech [great event BTW]
A good opportunity for agencies to showcase their work from a public platform.
Let me know if you are successful.
I wanted to make you aware that the ad:tech London Conference will be held on 22nd-23rd September 09 at Olympia and that we'll accept speaker submissions no later than 23rd June.
Over the past few years we have been inundated with requests, such as yours, to participate in the confer…

It was yet another marvellous night! So lovely to see all of you who made it. Special thanks to Stewart from Sun Startup Essentials for buying us drinks and Amy of WomenWhoTech who provided yummy snacks.
The question remains - when and where should we have the next meet-up? Finding a sponsor isn't easy, so if you know anyone who wants to support our cause, let me know. Otherwise we will meet sometime in July, in a park for a picnic - I will bring a few bottles of wine. Any other ideas, post you…

I just wanted to alert you to a competition that Vodafone is running in conjunction with Mobile Monday London (which I help to run) to reward innovation in mobile web services.
It's free to enter for start-ups (less than 3 years old) and pre-start-ups and they're looking for innovative mobile internet services. There's a prize fund of 150k Euros and is open to entrants from the UK and The Netherlands. The closing date is next week - 14th May.
Vodafone lays no claim on the IP and everything wil…

I've been following the inflammatory and thought provoking debate that was initiated by the 'Women in Tech' panel at Mike Butcher's action packed
Geek n Rolla. I was at the live debate but have been enjoying the ensuing conversations even more. Particularly between
Zusannah Pasierbinska,…

Snowed under and fighting the urge to kick certain people in the balls, I just wanted to share the stats and analysis from my recent survey. It's not scientific, it's a small sample of 200 respondents, but still it's what people think. I would love to hear your comments.
Getting more women in start-ups survey – w/c 13/4/2009
How many women in start-ups/tech companies
33% - none or 1 woman only
65% - in the minority
Women and their roles

This past Tuesday, April 21st, saw the incredibly brilliant event from TechCrunch Europe called Geek 'n Rolla. A day jam-packed with incredibly interesting presentations from entrepreneurs and techie geniuses such as Andy McLoughlin from Huddle and Leisa Reichelt. It was one of the few events I have walked away from feeling like I actually learned something, and that it was immensely

Sneak preview. I'm analysing the women in start-ups/tech 'inequality' survey as I type. The results (200 respondents) are stomach churning. Bottom line: it's all our OWN fault that there aren't any more women in start-ups. If we were arrogant, lying bastards we'd have a chance to succeed, but we'd still have to compete with the old 'boys network'. More to come. I need to calm myself down now.

I'm terribly exicted. Mike Butcher of TechCrunch asked me to take part in the panel at the
Geek 'n Rolla conference on 'Balancing Tech Culture'. It's our chance to discuss how we can get more women into tech and start-ups.
I want your opinion and created a 5 question survey. Click

You want to add an event (paid or unpaid) to the Silicon Stilettos calendar? Go on. You'd like to contribute a blog post? Sure. How about brainstorming some ridiculous idea you might have? You never know there might be other Silicon Stilettos thinking about doing the same thing. Or adding some pics?
It's your network. Use it. We will still use http://www.siliconstilettos.com to manage our meet-ups for now, but I am sure I'll figure out a way to bring it all together.
I'm off to round up some c…
